Homestead Exemption is a benefit for homeowners who live in Florida and maintain it as their primary residence. Non-compliance and abuse of the Homestead Exemption law financially affects all taxpayers. If you are aware of anyone in Marion County that is improperly receiving a Homestead Exemption and you believe they are abusing the exemption by renting their home, claiming a second residence benefit elsewhere or the home is vacant, we urge you to make a report to our office by completing the form below.

Please Note: The status of a property on January 1 each year is used to determine the property's value and exemption status for the entire year. For example, if a property owner has Homestead Exemption and sells the property after the first of the year, the previous owner's exemption will remain on the property for the entire calendar year, and will be removed as of January 1 of the next year.
